Funding requirements for specific projects are given below:

Small School Initiative

Our most pressing need is for our Small School Initiatives. Two projects are underway and their progress is highly dependent on further funds. You will find below our funding requirements for each project.

VSR Montessori School, Reddyvaripalle, Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh
Concern: Currently,50 children learn in a make-shift classroom with limited materials under the supervision of two teachers. Construction of the new classrooms has begun but is on hold due to a lack of funds.

In order for the school to effectively serve many of the hamlets that surround Reddyvaripalle, the following needs must be met by May 2011.

a. Infrastructure

For 3 classrooms: 3 Lakhs

For 2 toilets: 1 Lakh

Montessori Materials: Rs.1 Lakh

Library: Rs.20,000

Furniture: Rs. 1 Lakh

c. Transportation

A bus or van service is absolutely critical. Most of the hamlets are in the radius of two-to-four kms. A used van or a new van would be invaluable. Without this option, they have no access to quality schools in the area.

d. We have recurring expenses (teacher salary,transportation, electricity, water, morning porridge for children, etc.) that could greatly use a sponsor. If you want to sponsor any particular aspect, please let us know.

Teacher Salary: Rs. 20,000/month

Misc Expenses: Rs. 5000/month

Currently, we have a sponsor for Rs. 15000. Therefore, our need is Rs. 10000/month

This small school, of 40 children, is in dire need of two things:

Montessori Materials: Rs. 1 Lakh

Toilets: Rs. 50,000

Teacher Development

Due to the importance we place on the professional development of teachers, we ask teachers in our partner schools to enroll in a number of workshops. The financial component is often a cause of burden and teachers are unable to approach such workshops positively. To that end we look to donors who can sponsor workshops for teachers.

Each day of a workshop typically costs Rs. 250. You can sponsor one teacher for one day or for entire workshops. The following are some possible sponsorships:

• 1 day – Rs. 250
• 1 week – Rs. 1000
• 10 day Pre-Primary Assistants Course – Rs. 6000
• Set of 5 Teachers for 1 week – Rs. 5000

Creative Resource Centres

Our mandate is to establish at least two resource centres every year in, not only rural centres, but urban ones well.
Funding required: 4-6 Lakhs

Our Resource Center has developed into a nice space for children to come read and experience learning in a new, more enjoyable way. We need to keep the interest alive by having many more learning materials.
